Tunnel air conditioning is the optimal solution for regions with hot climates. In essence, it is one of the modes of longitudinal ventilation, when large exhaust fans expel huge masses of air through the end of the building, creating a vacuum in the room. Entering through the side and front supply windows, the air moves at high speed, creating the effect of a cooling “breeze”. Wall valves, windows, doors and ceiling shafts are completely closed, turning the room into a “tunnel”.
The basis of this system is the convection principle of cooling due to the high speed of air movement.
In extreme heat, such air conditioning is especially effective in combination with a system for humidifying the air entering the room.
Structure and principle of operation
This system is used to reduce the air temperature in rooms, in order to create the most favorable microclimate.
The main system is a cassette made of corrugated cellulose. The cassettes are packed in a rigid frame made of steel, below which there is a water collector, and above there is a pipe with holes for supplying water.
The water that enters through the upper holes flows down the corrugated material from top to bottom, moistening the entire panel. Dry and warm air, passing through the panel, partially removes moisture and turns into cold and wet. The remaining water washes the cassette and then falls back into the pan.
Evaporation occurs due to the energy of hot air, which, passing through the panel, is not only moistened, but also cooled.
The adiabatic cooling process is very effective, because the energy consumption for its reproduction is insignificant.
The water used in this system does not require special treatment. It can be supplied from a circulation pump or directly from the water supply network.
A closed water circulation system is the most common due to its low water consumption.
Water from the water supply is supplied in cases where the duration of humidifier operation during the year is insignificant, or the water quality does not allow it to be used several times.
